How to choose game server hosting
Start with the game your friends actually play, then compare the configuration and resources it needs. A larger memory number alone does not tell you whether a server will suit your group.
RealmRoost currently offers a catalog and sandbox checkout preview. Live hosting is not open yet. This guide explains what to check before selecting a future server; it does not promise tested performance or available capacity.
Choose the edition and server software first
Check everyone's game edition and client version. The selected server software determines which clients, plugins and mods can connect. A vanilla world, a plugin server and a large modpack are different workloads, even when they share a game name.
Compare Minecraft Java configurations, Minecraft Bedrock configurations and Terraria server options. Read the listed templates and the project's own documentation before choosing.
Compare RAM, CPU and storage together
- RAM: leave room for startup, updates and growth as well as ordinary play. The right amount depends on the game, world size, settings and modifications. A RAM tier is not a guaranteed player count.
- CPU: ask whether the quoted resources are shared or dedicated. RealmRoost's proposed CPU percentages are shared scheduling ceilings; 200% represents up to two vCPUs of CPU time, not two reserved physical cores.
- Storage: budget for the server files, active world, logs and update staging. A world that fits today may need more space during an update. NVMe storage and retained backups are separate allowances.
Check the world and mod workflow
For a persistent world, ask how you can import a save, change settings and export your data. Check that your chosen mods match both the server and clients, and keep a copy before changing versions. A mod-friendly template does not establish compatibility with every modpack.
See the configuration notes for Valheim, Rust and Factorio for game-specific considerations.
Understand what the monthly price includes
Compare the recurring price after introductory discounts, billing period, taxes, location, resource limits and support coverage. Check for extra charges for backups or other features. Hosting usually does not include ownership of the game itself.
RealmRoost's displayed packages are provisional sandbox offers. Test checkout makes no real charge, reserves no capacity and delivers no game server. Selected live prices and service terms will be shown before real purchases open.
Ask about recovery before you need it
A backup policy should state what is saved, how often, how long copies are kept and how restoration works. Restarting a server is different from recovering a damaged world. RealmRoost's live backup and support commitments are still being qualified.
Find your game's configuration
Browse the complete game server catalog to compare editions, installation options and proposed resource packages. Every game remains part of the catalog; each configuration needs verification before live delivery can open.
